01 May Alexis Remington
My name is Alexis Remington and the scene that I created is “Rebellion”. The word rebellion means a lot to me and I hold it very close. Growing up I was always told that I was rebellious and always did my own thing. I decided to channel the energy that I feel I give off and create something that will invoke an emotional response in the audience. I want the audience to see that they can be who they feel they are without fear. People shouldn’t be scared to stand up for what they believe is right and I hope to encourage people to take a stance and protect what they love and care about in this world. The inspiration for my scene came from many different places. I used several different muses including Yungblud, Billie Elish, and Halsey, as well as my own personal aesthetic. I also pulled inspirations from designers I like such as Alexander Mcqueen, and Michael Ngo. Things like riots and protests also inspired my design and fabric choices. Fabrics such as leather, denim, and flannel struck me as being punk and rebellious. The Coronavirus pandemic has impacted me and my scene in many positive and negative ways. Some of the negatives are that deadlines have been moved forward giving me less time to finish my work.Another thing is that I’m not able to get help with answering questions as quickly as if I were in class. However, there are many positives too. I am now able to work on creating for a full day instead of only being able to work for an hour or so. It is also allowing me to experiment more with different ideas and techniques. I am very thankful that we are still able to do something in place of a runway show. By putting together a LookBook, it is allowing me to be more creative in my picture taking and what I can do to make this even more unique to me. I am really looking forward to seeing how this whole project comes together.
I was born in Batavia, NY and raised in Attica,NY. I graduated from Attica Senior High School in 2019. In the next five years, I hope to have my bachelors degree in fashion design and open my own business. I originally wanted to open a special occasion dress shop but for now I am playing things by ear. Something people don’t know about me is that I have two black belts in karate. I trained for about 8 years, going to lessons two days a week for 45 minutes a day. After GCC I plan to transfer to FIT, but Buffalo State is not completely off the table. The reason I decided to go into the fashion industry is because I love to sew and to create. My grandma taught me how to sew and fell in love with it. I never thought that it would be my career, but just stay a hobby. During my Junior year of high school I discovered how many jobs there are in the fashion industry and went for it! My favorite book and movie is Nerve because it is a really interesting concept and I loved seeing the crazy things the characters would do for fame and money. The adaptation from the book to the movie was done very well. My instagram is @official_rmngtn and you can find me on LinkedIn @AlexisRemington
Special Thanks
I would like to thank everyone who made this show possible. My parents for supporting me and allowing me to take over the dining room as my sewing room, my models for working with me through this tough time, my friends who gave me awesome ideas when I was struggling, and my teachers for helping me fulfill my ambitious ideas. It was amazing to work with everyone who made this production come to life.
