My scene along with this semester has taken quite the turn. I began the year preparing to create my final scene for GCC, being President of Student Government Association along with my other positions at the school, and graduating. I, along with many students, have lost all footing to keep the semester together. My original scene for Indignation, was a designed scene of gowns I had created. I chose to use blue as my color this year. I had floral patterns, sequins, silk, and the highest slits on a dress you’ve ever seen. Since the pandemic has started I lost access to all resources, sewing machines, mannequins, and professors on campus for one on one assistance. In light of the upset I decided to dedicate my scene to graduating seniors in high school who are missing their opportunity to go to senior prom. I’ve reached out to girls from my hometown as well as other regions to begin my collection. It was a slow start and since prom was such a ways out for some, girls didn’t even have prom dresses to model. I have since extended my scene to all girls/women who have participated in prom. I myself have added my senior year picture as well as some close friends and classmates from my high school days. I know when I was a high school student prom was a huge milestone for myself and my classmates. I even went to prom every year of high school. I know that times are different and what was once normal is now kind of off-limits so I’ve chosen to use my scene as a spotlight for a true meaning of indignation today. Everyone has lost something from this pandemic and I know it is no prom 2020 but to give girls the opportunity to present their gowns to the world means everything to me. I hope future shows can take this idea and give girls in the GLOW region an opportunity to show off their prom dresses as models.
My name is Nicole Ortiz, my hometown is Dunkirk, NY and I graduated from Dunkirk High School in 2016. I envision myself in five years to be invested in my career in Public Relations and Marketing for a diverse and modern company. I want to advance not only career-wise but also grow as a person and explore the niceties of existence. Something interesting about me is that I spent the better half of my childhood figure-skating. I went to an open skate and from that day on I had weekend lessons, hours of practice, and shows that I loved performing for. I am planning to transfer to either The Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan or Cortland University. I plan to transfer into Public Relations, Marketing, and Advertising and although this major isn’t directly rooted in fashion I plan to combine the two for my future in the fashion industry. I’ve known since I was young I would be in the fashion industry. For some time, I thought about fashion design and throughout college I’ve realized I’m interested in the Marketing aspects of fashion. I will continue to create my own personal designs, however. I’d have to say my favorite movie is Silver Linings Playbook. I’m a sucker for a rom-com but one that also portrays love exists even with mental illness is top shelf for me. Connect with me through LinkedIn @nicoleortiz or my Instagram @nicole_marie_favata.
